The text I read had the title of “Self Concept.” Which has a major connection to what the outsiders was which was about how see themselves and how they think about themselves and how they want to be. There is a lot about self esteem in the article I read which reminded me of pony. In Self Concept it stated, “Even though self-esteem might fluctuate, there are times when we continue to believe good things about ourselves even when evidence to the contrary exists. This is known as the perseverance effect.” This made me think about how the greasers are, since they see themselves as cool people, who don't need to follow the rules. But other people see them as thugs who steal and don't know anything.
Another major topic in my article was about self image which is how we ourselves, and the article states, “This does not necessarily have to reflect reality. Indeed a person with anorexia who is thin may have a self-image in which the person believes they are fat. A person's self image is affected by many factors, such as parental influences, friends, the media etc.” This has a major connection to The Outsiders since this is all about how Pony sees himself and not if he thinks about himself in a good or bad way. Pony has a lot of time where he deals with self image since he doesn't know whether or not he wants to stay a greaser. The article and The outsiders are very similar because it they both have moments about self doubt and how pony sees himself and how he sees himself among the greasers. But I prefer the book over the article because it has more interesting part than the article did.
