Keep Me In Mind

A book that I just finished reading was called “Keep Me In Mind” by Jaime Reed. The book is about a girl named Ellia who loses her memory in an accident and she can’t remember anyone even her boyfriend Liam. Liam is working on a book about all the months he had dated her up to the accident. The story changes the point of view from Liam to Ellia each chapter. It’s a really good book in my opinion since it’s a love story. There are some moments where it feels like Romeo and Juliet because after the accident the fathers don’t want their children near each other. I feel that my favorite would have to be character Ellia she can’t believe that the person she was in the two years she lost and she’s trying to figure out her life and how she used to be piece by piece.

The Sky is Everywhere

The Sky is Everywhere is probably my favorite book I read this year. The reason it’s my favorite is because it’s about this girl named Lennie and she’s in love with these two guys Toby and Joe. The problem with this love triangle is Toby is her dead sister fiancĂ© and Joe is the new kid in town. Lennie has to choose between the two of them but always feels guilty when she’s with one or the other.  My favorite thing about this book is that at the beginning of some chapter and at the end of some it shows what Lennie wrote and dropped at some places. The places the notes are, are at a river or written on a bathroom wall. The story has a lot of twists and turns, and when you think the story is going good it starts going down hill. But Lennie can’t help but make those twists and turns because she still misses her sister bailey. I would recommend this book if you like reading love stories since the book is just a major love triangle.

Beyond the book Outsider

The text I read had the title of  “Self Concept.” Which has a major connection to what the outsiders was which was about how see themselves and how they think about themselves and how they want to be. There is a lot about self esteem in the article I read which reminded me of pony. In Self Concept it stated, “Even though self-esteem might fluctuate, there are times when we continue to believe good things about ourselves even when evidence to the contrary exists. This is known as the perseverance effect.”  This made me think about how the greasers are, since they see themselves as cool people, who don't need to follow the rules. But other people see them as thugs who steal and don't know anything.

Another major topic in my article was about self image which is how we ourselves, and the article states, “This does not necessarily have to reflect reality. Indeed a person with anorexia who is thin may have a self-image in which the person believes they are fat. A person's self image is affected by many factors, such as parental influences, friends, the media etc.” This has a major connection to The Outsiders since this is all about how Pony sees himself and not if he thinks about himself in a good or bad way. Pony has a lot of time where he deals with self image since he doesn't know whether or not he wants to stay a greaser. The article and The outsiders are very similar because it they both have moments about self doubt and how pony sees himself and how he sees himself among the greasers. But I prefer the book over the article because it has more interesting part than the article did.

The Outsiders

The book and the movie have many similarities and some differences. For the similarities the movie stayed some what true to the book, they still show that the reason why a Soc was killed was because pony wanted to run away from Darry and Soda since he was hit. This was an important scene since this scene caused the rest of the book to happen. They also don't change the ending like how other movie adaptations do, they still killed Johnny and Dally which was also important since Pony loved them since they were all greasers.

The movie isn't a hundred percent like the book. A scene was changed, it was when Pony and Cherry are both in line for snacks, Pony in the book tells Cherry the whole story on how Johnny was jumped and went into detail but in the movie he just said Johnny was jumped and said some details but didn't tell the story. We also find out how Pony’s parents died since he had a nightmare about it in the movie but in the book all we know is that his parents were killed in an automobile crash.

The acting for the movie wasn't really that good but since it was an older movie I'd let it slide. But for the characters they found some people who somewhat looked like how the character was supposed to look, and they also acted how the characters looked on screen. One thing that was changed though was that Dally’s hair color in dark brown almost black but in the book it was described as almost white but blonde hair. Other than that I think the other characters were portrayed by good actors.

Quarter one reflection

My classes so far I good I like my ela teacher, she’s my favorite teacher this year and I am getting better grades in this year ela than my last year classes. My math teacher is also one of my favorite teachers since she’s really nice and I get good grades in math. Social studies is an easy class for me because I find it easy to remember things that have happened in the past, and I think I am getting good grades. Science is an easy class for me too since it’s always been easy for me. For next quarter I am going to try to keep up my work and try to keep on constantly getting fours in all of my classes because I want to show that I do understand each topic. My behavior is alright I would say because I’m quiet but I still kind of participate. I am going to try on keeping on coming to class on time and ask what I missed when I am absent. I don’t know if I am going to join a club this year but I really want to, but I don’t know which club I should join but a club I would like to join is Robotics because my friends said that Robotics was a fun club.

I’ll Give You The Sun

The book I just finished reading was “I’ll give you the sun” by Jandy Nelson. This book was probably one of my all time favorites because of how the story went and how many twists happened. The story is about twins Noah and Jude they are seen as NoahandJude inseparable twins. Noah is the quiet one who draws, and starts to fall in love with the boy next door, while Jude is the daredevil and does the speaking for both twins. However this is for Noah’s chapters since the book is split from Noah and Jude, Noah tells the story about the past and when they were thirteen to fourteen, while Jude the story of the future while they’re 16. I loved Jude’s chapter as they progressed. When they become sixteen they are Noah and Jude and they don’t talk to each other that much anymore because of a devastating event. The event changes how the twins act, Noah turns into a popular person and a party animals and doesn’t draw while Jude gets into an art school and has to do a project that she says she must do in stone and can see her mothers ghost and grandmas ghost. This time it’s Jude falling I love with an unknown yet irresistible boy. They give Noah the chapter called “The invisible museum” and Jude “The History of Luck” which has a lot of importance in the story.  I fell in love with Noah at first but as time went on I saw myself more in Jude. Noah maybe the gay one but Jude was the smart one who made so many mistakes that I were similar to what I’ve done sometimes and I could see why she would do it.

Storms

The thing about storms is that they can be anything, something hard that you went through in life you can consider a storm. In my eyes storms are not just when it rains so much I see them as when we go through rough times, that can be a storm. It may not be raining or windy but to us depending on what's happening it can be tearing us apart like a storm is happening all around us. But the storm will come to an end they always do, and when it ends we will see who stuck by us from the start to the end, since it isn't guaranteed that everyone in your life is going to stay after every storm. The people who care about you will stay after each storm they look out after you during the storm but the ones that leave it hurts you when they do that you forget to thank the ones that stayed.
